RS485 Register Map and Acceptance Checklist for Pump OEMs

Engineering reference image; use the register map supplied for the approved hardware and firmware version.
A pump OEM should approve more than the statement “RS485 available.” The acceptance package needs the physical interface, Modbus settings, register addresses, data types, scaling, permissions, timeout behavior and version control. A successful connection to one sample is not enough for repeat production.
Minimum Interface Record
| Item | Required Record |
|---|---|
| Physical layer | RS485 terminals, polarity and reference connection |
| Serial settings | Baud rate, parity and stop bits |
| Node settings | Address range and default address |
| Register map | Address, function, data type, scale and unit |
| Commands | Read-only or writable status for each point |
| Timeout | Local fallback and alarm behavior |
| Version | Hardware, firmware and parameter file revision |
What Must Be Tested?
- Read frequency, current, pressure, runtime and fault status.
- Write only authorized commands and verify range limits.
- Remove the RS485 cable and confirm the agreed fallback.
- Restart the VFD and check retained address and parameters.
- Operate the pump while checking communication stability.
- Replace a sample unit using the production parameter file.
Selection Logic
Freeze the register map with the approved sample and firmware. If the pump-to-pump network and external controller both need communication, verify the available ports on the exact YS620 or YS820 version. Define ownership of start and setpoint so local, remote and automatic commands cannot conflict.
Common Mistakes
- Copying a register map from another firmware version.
- Omitting units, signed values or decimal scaling.
- Allowing unrestricted remote writes.
- Approving the sample without testing cable disconnection.
AUSENIST Solution
AUSENIST can provide confirmed communication information, parameter presets, address planning and sample-validation support for OEM projects. Custom data or behavior requires written feasibility review and version-controlled approval.
FAQ
Can the OEM create its own default addresses?
Defaults may be preset after the address plan and production method are approved.
Should every register be writable?
No. Write access should be limited to required, safe commands.
Why record firmware version?
Communication behavior and registers can change between approved versions.
