15kW 460V VFD for a Commercial Booster Pump

Engineering reference image; the 460V version and current rating require project confirmation.
A 15kW or approximately 20HP commercial booster pump on a 460V, 60Hz supply requires a voltage-specific VFD selected by motor full-load amps. The pressure-control design also needs the pump curve, required building pressure and a correctly ranged transmitter.
Recommended Configuration
| Item | Reference Selection |
|---|---|
| Motor | 15kW/20HP class, 460V three-phase, 60Hz |
| Pump | Vertical multistage booster pump |
| Control | Constant-pressure PID |
| Sensor | 4–20mA pressure transmitter |
| Communication | Local control or confirmed BMS interface |
| VFD | AUSENIST 460V custom configuration, selected by amps |
What Must Be Confirmed?
- Motor nameplate voltage, amps, frequency and speed.
- Minimum, normal and peak building flow.
- Static head, target pressure and maximum pipe rating.
- Sensor range and BMS/PLC requirements.
- Required certification, disconnect and short-circuit ratings.
Selection Logic
Confirm the 460V hardware before quotation. Size output current above the actual motor amps after ambient and enclosure review. Set the motor frequency to 60Hz and limit maximum speed to the pump approval. Scale the transmitter, then tune PID under low, normal and high demand.
Common Mistakes
- Converting 15kW to horsepower and ignoring nameplate amps.
- Treating a 380V model as a 460V model.
- Raising frequency above 60Hz to compensate for insufficient pump head.
- Omitting local electrical requirements from the RFQ.
AUSENIST Solution
AUSENIST can evaluate a 460V pump-drive configuration, preset constant-pressure functions and support OEM branding. Model approval depends on current, environment and market-specific compliance requirements.
FAQ
Is 15kW exactly equal to 20HP?
It is close, but the motor nameplate current—not the converted label—controls selection.
Can it work in a two-pump booster set?
Yes with a designed lead/lag sequence and a suitable drive on each motor.
Is 60Hz entered automatically?
Motor data should be checked and entered during commissioning.
