What Information Should a Pump Manufacturer Send to a VFD Supplier?

A pump manufacturer should send motor nameplates, supply details, pump applications, quantities, control requirements and installation conditions. This prevents a preliminary kW-based guess from becoming an incorrect production order.
What Information Is Required?
- Rated motor voltage, current, kW, Hz, rpm and motor type.
- Available input voltage, phase and frequency.
- Pump type, curve, flow, head and safe speed limits.
- Pressure, level, terminals, RS485 or multi-pump sequence.
- Temperature, altitude, enclosure and cable length.
- Annual demand, batch size, branding and target markets.
Selection Example
Instead of writing “need 4 kW VFD,” send a nameplate showing 380 V and 8.5 A, identify a centrifugal booster application, specify a 4–20 mA sensor and state the annual quantity. The supplier can then confirm current rating and control scope.
Common Mistakes
- Sending only pump kW.
- Omitting motor type or winding voltage.
- Failing to describe the sensor.
- Hiding high altitude or long motor cable.
- Mixing sample and production requirements.
