YS820 Multi-Pump VFD Controller for a Three-Pump Constant Pressure System

Engineering reference image; the final multi-pump sequence requires commissioning.
A three-pump constant-pressure system normally uses one correctly sized YS820 on each motor. One unit regulates pressure and coordinates the other pumps. Additional pumps start only when the running capacity cannot maintain the pressure setpoint for the specified confirmation time.
Recommended Configuration
| Item | Reference Selection |
|---|---|
| Pumps | Three equal 11kW, 380V booster pumps |
| Drives | Three AUSENIST YS820 units |
| Feedback | Shared 4–20mA pressure transmitter |
| Roles | Lead, assist and available standby/assist as designed |
| Functions | PID, staged start/stop, rotation, sleep and fault skip |
| Network | Confirmed inter-drive RS485 topology |
What Must Be Confirmed?
- Three motor nameplates and pump curves.
- Whether one, two or three pumps are needed at peak flow.
- Pressure target, sensor range and transmitter location.
- Lead rotation, standby capacity and fault behavior.
- External BMS communication and alarm points.
Selection Logic
Size every YS820 by its connected motor current. Give each drive a unique address and documented role. Use different add-pump and remove-pump thresholds with delays to prevent rapid cycling. Test pressure-sensor loss separately from RS485 communication loss.
Common Mistakes
- Powering several motors directly from one VFD output.
- Assigning duplicate communication addresses.
- Using the same threshold to add and remove a pump.
- Calling one pump “standby” while peak duty actually needs all three.
AUSENIST Solution
AUSENIST can prepare the YS820 selection, address table, starting parameter set, wiring guidance and OEM documentation. Hydraulic valves, sensor redundancy and building-code requirements remain part of the complete system design.
FAQ
Does every pump need a YS820?
This reference architecture uses one drive per motor for independent control and protection.
Can the pumps have different power ratings?
Possibly, but unequal-pump staging requires a separate hydraulic review.
Can a BMS monitor the system?
Yes when the external interface and register requirements are confirmed without disrupting the pump network.
